You didn't mention where you live now...I'm from North Jersey and have re-located to Whiting.
Dining there and here are 2 different worlds. Proximity is also a big difference.
I'm here for the lower taxes and less traffic.
You didn't mention if you are looking for adult communities (age 55 and over) or single family housing.
Depending on your needs, if you will be commuting, etc. would be the determination if Whiting is the place for you.
We do have 2 diner like atmospheres in Whiting and finally some good pizza.
Other than that I find myself driving towards Brick or Toms River for dining.

Shopping is very limited in Whiting, but we are awaiting a new Foodtown. We have a new Stop and Shop.
If you are shopping for clothes, our 2 closest malls are Ocean County Mall in Toms River and Freehold Mall in Freehold.
