Essex, Union or Morris county are easy to commute to NYC by NJ Trasnsit train or bus. I would check out Millburn/Short Hills, Summit or Maplewood. All great town with lovely homes in your price range, many in walking distance to the train station. Some of the developments are Heatherwood, Woodlands, Village Pointe, the Maples, Oaks and Timberline.
