Cynthia.....

If you haven't talked with you insurance broker recently I would. Also, I would make sure you have full replacement cost plus 25% to cover code changes.

Price per square foot varies based on area. Also, smaller home have a higher price per square foot than larger homes. good luck.

FIRST ANSWER

I assume you live in a single family home as opposed to a condominium or townhome.

It is best to have a contractor give you an idea of the replacement costs for your home. Alot will depend on the quality of the materials you use. Some homes will cost $300 per square feet to rebuild while others will be $500.00 per square feet. Be sure to have an automatic annual increase in your replacement costs to keep up with inflation.

Also, check with your insurance company to determine exactly what will be covered in the event of any loss. Many times we think we are covered for certain items when we are not. It will depend on the circumstances surrounding the loss. Flood insurance applies to certain types of floods.

Make a list of questions for your insurance person i.e. does insurance cover kitchen cabinets, granite counter tops, marble floors etc. Take pictures of our home's interior so that you will have evidence of the type and quality of materials used.

Also, asked about contents. Is your jewlery covered? Precious art work.

Insurance is complicated. You need to know the details.

All the best!
