My neighbor lives in the condo above me with a large caged dog that barks all day and night, what can I do?

She also lets the dog run free in our yard, the other tenants also disagree with tis.

Mz. Bizzness: How terrible for you, your neighbors and the dog! Try to talk to the neighbor first. If you can't work it out , go to your building assoc. if that doesn't resolve it, go to the condo assoc. etc., etc. Just start with the neighbor, they might not realize what an inconvenience to you they really are.

Hi Mz Bizzness,

I live in Oregon, and the laws might be different here than they are there. We have/had a barking dog in our neighborhood I went to our local city website and found out what the city ordinances were for barking dogs. The first thing I had to do was go speak with the dog owner (which I did, fortunately thats all I had to do) second thing I would have to do is record or videotape the barking dog. Third I would have to go down to the courthouse and file in small claims court a complaint . One thing you have to keep in mind is that its not the dogs fault its the irresponsive pet owners fault. I recommend you speak to the owner in a non confrontational way and if you don't get results speak to the HOA President or find out your rights thru the city. Good Luck!

Hi Mz Bizzness,

Well that should be definitely very unpleasant for you and your neighbors and this is precisely why there are laws in regards to noise , specially in condo associations. My advise is for you to read you HOA rules and contact the president of the HOA. Document the time and how often it happens and do it all in writing. Submit a copy to the HOA as well. Hope this helps. Good luck!

If you have a condo association and depending on the size of the building, there should be an outline of the rules in the bylaws. Have you asked her to quiet the dog? Chances are, and this is just my opinion, the dog isn't getting out during the day for exercise or having any interaction outside of the cage. It's really a sad situation for you but even more frustrating for the dog. Ask her if she can hire a dog walking service to come in and get him out of the house a few times a week. If your condo association has rules, she may be up for a fine. Best of luck! Sorry this had to happen to you :(

FIRST ANSWER

Go to your condo board president and look at your bylaws. Your officially documented complaints may result in a fine. I had the same situation a few years ago and after a few fines from noise complaints, the owner took the dog to obedience school and used a bark collar which cleared up the problem
