We have checked out properties in NJ, and we noticed how few options there are for contemporary homes!
Can you suggest a link/website for buying contemporary homes on market?

Hi Neha, an agent can search the MLS using the style of home as search criteria - this should help you target homes much better. Include "custom" as well as "contemporary" in your search criteria as some contemporaries will tuck into the custom category no doubt.
Generally speaking contemporaries are not as popular as a more traditional colonial style home in New Jersey. As a result there are fewer choices as the style of homes reflects demand. But so does price Neha, and I have found that in my area, given lower demand, contemporary homes are selling at a higher discount than traditional homes. This is good news for you as a contemporary buyer. If you are still looking and open to Somerset County, there are some lovely contemporary homes that I can show you. Neha,
I fought with my Seller about categorizing her home as a Colonial because she custom designed it. I won the argument because more Colonials sell in this area! It really is a hybrid and is looking for someone that also has a penchant for horses! Check it out and be sure to watch its virtual tour. If you can afford it, you can take it to its next level and make it more contemporary! To see what I mean go to my website and look at 59 Herbert Road in my "Featured Properties." Enjoy! Any questions, send me an e-mail at Ed@EdMillerProperties.com and my website is www.EdMillerProperties.com. Or, you can call me anytime at 609 647-6818. Most members of the MLS can run specific search terms for your request... If you are interested in North Bergen County I can help. I'm sure there are others local to your primary location.

Monmouth County has many contemporary homes, especially in the North East portion of the County. I would welcome the opportunity to help you find something in the Monmouth or Ocean County areas if that is suitable to you.

Neha,
Hello, there are alot of contemporary homes but they are mixed as far as placement. Plainboro and S Brunswick maybe another option for oyu to search as well. Happy to assist you through the process because it is not that easy to just click a link and have them all pop up. Good luck, Scott Sat Mar 29 2008, 11:35

There are a good number of contemporary homes in Princeton. (I bought mine 3 years ago in the township) They are intermixed though and may be labeled any number of ways. You may want to open your criteria to include all types of homes though as I have seen homes that were built shortly after WW2 and have high cathedral ceilings and open floor plans though this would not normally be considered the contemporary time frame. remember that Princeton is known for it's historical background so people tend to look for Colonials, victorians and such.

If you are willing to head further south into Burlington County, there are some very nice contempory styled homes in this area. They do tend to be in the mid to high price range. I could send you some examples if you are interested. As you have noted, there are fewer of them than the more traditional homes but there are some wonderful contemporary homes built by Pond & Spitz and Steliga over the last 25 years.

Hi Neha,
Most areas of New Jersey do not have many contemporary homes. We have fewer buyers, and that less demand does put more negotiating power in the hands of those like yourself. I don't know of any site that specializes in listing just contemporary homes. Are you considering towns other than Princeton? If your geographic boundaries are well defined, it should not be hard to limit your search once you become a bit familiar w/ the current offerings. There are only a handful of new listings each week, so to browse through those and select only the contemporary homes is not hard......if you have a specific location. If you are looking county wide...or are considering 10 towns or more (which isn't hard to do in NJ!).....there's a bit mroe to keeping up on the new listings and if they meet your criteria. In contrast to the poster before me, I will say that Princeton, and many areas of NJ have wonderful mature established neighborhoods. Within Princeton, as with most towns, you will find the interiors of some homes updtated to the 9's.....with every bell and whistle one can imagine....and you will find some dated decors. Princeton is far from "old and worn" - in fact, it is beautiful. A Realtor can do a lot of prescreening on your behalf once you have an established buyer agency agreement. Are you moving to this area from another? Do you have a Realtor? Regards, Deborah Madey - Real Estate Broker Peninsula Realty Group - New Jersey Sat Mar 29 2008, 10:08
