i grew up in bayonne which is the next town over from jersey city. trust me stay away from ocean avenue. alot and i mean alot of crime in that particular area. ocean ave, martin luther king ave, journal square area. all very unsafe but probably cheap to live there. people act like animals in these areas and i would suggest looking somewhere else....good luck....

For safety stats, your best resource is the local police station. There is little info on rentals here on Trulia. You might find some data on rental rates by searching rentals on CraigsList.
