realtor in the US. What % of total commission can I request for this referral?
Hi Andre:
According to your name, you speak French, I guess. My first language is French and if it is the same for your client, he will be in good hands. My office usually offers 25% but I, myself give 30 to make it attractive so that both agents can build a good relationship and keep on referring. I know it is late, but if your buyer has not found a house yet, please get in touch with me.
Andre, Where is your referral property located? I generally offer 25-30%, but commissions and referrals are always negotiable! Send me an email: AndreShambley@Keyes.com

Andre, Where is your referral property located? I'm just curious - were you able to find an agent? In response to your question, I generally offer 25-30%, but commissions and referrals are always negotiable! Cynthia

Andre, As you can see by the responses below, there is no exact answer to your question. If I had a customer (seller) that owned a property outside of Florida, I would look after their best interest and first identify the best Realtor to get the job done. Secondly, I would then try to negotiate the referral fee. I definitely would not refer my customer to a Realtor based solely on their offering the highest referral fee. This could backfire. I would argue that a Realtor that gives a 35% referral fee for a listing, will not allocate adequate dollars for advertising/marketing.

Hiya Andre. I am a licensed Realtor in the great state of Oklahoma. Unlike the current market trend, Oklahoma real estate is doing great. If you choose to look in Oklahoma, you should find great value in our market. I have given 20-35% referral fees. But, there is no "set" or "standard" referral fee. If you have any questions or are interested in Oklahoma Real Estate, please feel free to call me at 405.603.7443. Good luck in your quest :)

Andre',
Are you still out there? ^_^
Andre' it is really up to you what you want to ask for the referral fee. I have handled referrals for everything from 25 to 35 percent. It is of course something you can discuss with the agent in the area your client wishes to relocate to. We work with CARTUS so all of our referrals go through our relocation department but a broker to broker referral is completely negotiable. Of course if you ask too much some agents will just pass on it. My last international was 25%. If you need any help or have any other questions do not hesitate to ask.

Hi Andre
In my office, we usually start with 25% on a first referral, but it is not unusual to give 30%. The old adage a piece of the pie is better then no pie. Good luck from sunny Naples Fl.
Brian"Skip"Caron
between 20-30%
30 is pretty high....20-25 is realistic.
Hi, Andre. One of my closest friends lives in Joberg. Referral fees are negotiable but it is pretty standard in So California to pay 25%. If you need someone in the Los Angeles area my team is here for you!

I am not located on the ocean so I doubt I can help you directly. As someone else said below, all is negotiable. My company is a member of the relo group Leading Estate Companies of the World - their web site is reference below. You may want to reach out to them.
I sometimes forget how close we all become on the web! It is still rather amazing to me that we can communicate so easily across the globe. My daughter is sitting next to me while I write this and was suprised to see a question come from South Africa. (She and her school friends are very focused on other areas of your continent that are in need and is constantly giving me an education!)
Best wishes!
Hi!
You originally posted for a potential oceanfront property referral around Dade County (Miami area). If your client would like to consider a less congested Oceanfront area, only 100 miles north of Miami, I'd be happy to help them, and will offer to you a 30% referral fee.
The area of Martin County has Oceanfront, Intracoastal Waterway-front, and riverfront properties , and is the only area in Florida where you can navigate by water from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico.
Andre,
It's normally 20%-30% referral fee. I represent in New York, Swig Equities and Halstead Properties. Our New York & International client base would have the best reach for you, in addition to our marketing exposure. Please let me know the specifics

In my experience in the Boston area, referral fees are negotiable and are usually in the 20% to 30% area.
Be happy to help if you have any other questions-

I pay 30% referral fee and take good care of the client - I work in Seattle and its suburbs.
Most offer 20-25% for a referral fee in Florida.
I work in the Disney area.
You can contact me also.

This Trulia forum may be one of the better ways we can introduce ourselves to one another.
If you have a client thinking of moving to the San Diego, CA area, we would be happy to pay a 25 percent referral fee PLUS a glass of wine.
Good wishes!
I'm with Vicky on this one; and would reiterate her "glass of wine" through 40%. I market international properties and change 1% as the marketing agent. But there is such a wide variety of how people do business abroad that it has to fit each situation and make sense -- I focus on negotiating for a win-win.
Truth be told, referral fees, like commissions, ARE not set it stone. It all depends on a number of things including: price of property, the receiving agent (he/she may be the best person for the job, but only offers 20%), etc.
If you have good clients who are ready to buy---NEGOTIATE the best deal----AND good luck!
I am in Northwest Florida (Destin) with gorgeous beaches and wonderful amenities. It is 25% here, too--let me know if I can be of assistance. We have friends from Capetown, and my sister was an exchange student in Durban--would love to be in touch with you.
The usual referral commission around Sarasota/North Port is 25% but it varies with each transaction. I would be happy to assist you if they are looking in SW Florida.

In general referral fees are 25% of the listing/selling agents NET proceeds. Depending on the complications or simplicity of the transaction, it can vary. Some properties can and do sell quickly, others are time consumming and troublesome. Everything is negotiable.
Referrals range from "a glass of wine" to about 35%, depending on the quality of the referral, and the price range of the property.
If a potential buyer or seller lands on my website, and requests a CMA for another state, I will refer him to an agent in that area, with the agreement that they buy me a drink someday if anything ever comes of it.
If I refer my best friend, or client, who will absolutely buy or sell within the near future, to an out of area agent, I will expect top level service and probably a 25% referral fee, which I may then direct to be rebated back to my client.
Corporate relocation companies generally demand referral fees of 35% for doing almost nothing, but often they have the control to take away some of the employee's moving benefits if they don't use an agent who will pay the ransom.
Hello Andre,
It is appropriate to as for a 25% referral fee which is paid when the property closes (sold). Perhaps I may be of assistance to you. Please feel free to contact me at Phil@PhilFowler.com
